Australia is Dying

Australia’s fertility rate is well below replacement level and continues to fall according to the latest census statistics.

The 2001 census puts our fertility rate at 1.73 children for each women of child bearing age and this is well below the accepted replacement rate of 2.1.

When widespread abortion was allowed in the 1970’s the rate fell below replacement level for the first time in Australia’s history. The rate being 2.95 in 1971 then dropping to 2.06 in 1976.

This substantial abortion induced reduction in fertility has been added to by recent trends of later marriage, increasing de facto relationships and single parenting all of which are proven to lead to less births in our society.

However, the Australian Family Association has identified a growing number of single low income men that do not have the job security, education, skills or income to marry and support a family even if they wish to do so.

This growing group of single low income males (SLIM’s) is contributing to the continuing decline of Australia’s fertility.

Our Association believes that Australia’s fertility decline will continue and will greatly impact on our aging population, standard of living and our ability to defend our country.

The Australian Family Association believes that Australia’s abortion rate should be drastically cut or eliminated as a matter of priority.

Australia MUST increase its fertility level.
